Kennett Square is not only a picturesque community, it is known as the Mushroom Capital of the World. Every year, local farmers grow millions of mushrooms, which translates into roughly 65 percent of all mushrooms consumed in the United States. Additionally, the community’s connection to mushroom farming goes all the way back to 1853.
It is for this reason that Kennett Square is home to one of the most anticipated annual events across all of Chester County, the Mushroom Feastival. The occation includes culinary contents, exhibitions, and family-fun entertainment. Consequently, over 100,000 visitors descend on the small community every year. Moreover, in 2014, the festival won second place in a Reader’s Choice/USA Today Travel contest: Best Specialty Food Festival in America.
But don’t think that is all Kennett Square has to offer. The bourough is also the corporate headquarters for Genesis HealthCare, which provides elder care services across the Unted States. Yet, it is likly the local culinary scene that will get most people excited. Here you will find many gerat restreants, like Half Moon Restaurant & Saloon, Sinclair’s Sunrise Cafe, and of course the famous La Michoacana Ice Cream.
