KENNETT SQUARE, PA — Red, white, and blue will soon fill the streets of Kennett Square as the community prepares for a season-long celebration marking America’s 250th anniversary.
Kennett Collaborative has announced an expanded lineup of events and initiatives under its “250 in Kennett” campaign, designed to bring residents, businesses, and visitors together through a mix of tradition, local pride, and small-town charm.
The celebration begins with one of Kennett Square’s most beloved traditions—the Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 25—setting the stage for a summer of programming that highlights both the nation’s history and the town’s vibrant community spirit. Organizers are encouraging local groups, performers, and organizations to participate in what is billed as the largest Memorial Day parade in Chester County.
Throughout the season, familiar events will take on a patriotic twist. June’s Third Thursday, scheduled for June 18, will feature “Dare to Declare,” a public reading of the Declaration of Independence along State Street, inviting the community to reflect on the country’s founding while gathering in the heart of town.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, new Americana-themed decorations will appear throughout Kennett Square, made possible by a grant from the Chester County Community Foundation. Beginning the week of May 18, residents and visitors can expect to see enhanced streetscapes with American flags, seasonal displays, and red, white, and blue floral arrangements supplied by Pratt’s Greenhouse.
The effort also ties into the broader beautification of the borough, with proceeds from the Kennett Blooms Plant Sale on May 2 and 3 helping to refresh planters and green spaces throughout the year.
“We’re grateful to the Chester County Community Foundation for supporting 250 in Kennett,” said Mary Lou Baily, Kennett Collaborative’s development manager. “It’s about creating a true sense of place and belonging.”
Community members are also invited to support the initiative through donations, with suggested contributions of $25 or $250 helping fund events and experiences throughout the season.
