CHESTER SPRINGS, PA — High-energy dancing, unforgettable Broadway songs and a story about standing up for what’s right will fill the stage in Chester Springs as SALT Performing Arts brings Disney’s Newsies to Chester County for the holiday season.
The Tony Award-winning musical runs Nov. 20 through Dec. 13, 2026, at SALT’s Chester Springs theater, featuring a local cast of singers and dancers in a production celebrating courage, friendship and the power of collective action.
Based on Disney’s 1992 film and inspired by historical events, Newsies follows Jack Kelly, a charismatic young newspaper seller who leads a group of teenage newsboys in a strike against powerful New York City publishers at the turn of the 20th century.
When newspaper executives raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack and his fellow newsies organize to demand fair treatment, transforming a struggle for survival into a movement for justice.
Broadway Favorites and High-Energy Dancing
The musical features a Tony Award-winning score and book, with audience favorites including “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day” and “Santa Fe.”
Lauren McComas, SALT’s president and artistic director, serves as director, producer and casting director for the production.
“Based on the 1992 motion picture and inspired by a true story, NEWSIES features a Tony Award-winning score and book. You’ll leave the theatre feeling inspired and singing the now classic songs Carrying the Banner, Seize the Day, and Santa Fe,” McComas said.
“Our version of Newsies will knock your socks off with some of the best dancers and singers in the area. It’s a perfect holiday treat for the whole family!”
The production features choreography by Valerie Dixon and Ajah Krzywonos, musical direction by Brigitte Rottman and digital scenic design by Robbie Merow.
SALT’s staging incorporates digital scenic extensions alongside theatrical lighting and sound to bring the bustling streets of historic New York City to life.
