KENNETT SQUARE, PA — Kennett Collaborative is introducing a series of butterfly-themed public art installations across the borough this summer, adding new attractions intended to encourage residents and visitors to explore downtown and neighborhood destinations.
The initiative includes six artist-designed butterfly benches, free temporary tattoos for attendees at Kennett Summerfest, and a community-wide sticker program tied to local lending libraries.
The benches, which will be placed throughout the borough, were fabricated by Stone Masters Inc. using water-jet cutting technology and then decorated by local artists, community groups, and organizations.
Kennett Collaborative said the installations are designed to create a walking experience that encourages visitors to discover different parts of the community during the summer season.
State Street Tattoo created four butterfly-themed temporary tattoo designs that will be distributed free to attendees at Kennett Summerfest.
The Kennett Library MakerSpace also produced butterfly-themed boxes using 3D printing technology. The boxes contain butterfly stickers and will be placed in lending libraries throughout the borough.
Residents and visitors will be able to collect stickers while visiting the mobile book-sharing locations.
Mural artist Val Steur is also participating in the project and plans to create a live interactive mural during Kennett Summerfest.
“I was excited to contribute to the Butterfly Bench Project and I’m looking forward to connecting with festival attendees at Kennett Summerfest through a live interactive mural,” Steur said.
Kennett Collaborative said the installations will remain in place throughout the summer as part of broader efforts to promote community engagement and encourage exploration of the borough’s public spaces.
