UPPER CHICHESTER TWP, PA — A Philadelphia man arrested by Pennsylvania State Police following an alleged road-rage stabbing on Interstate 476 is also wanted in Upper Chichester Township on felony charges stemming from a 2022 armed robbery investigation, according to police.
Upper Chichester police said Samuel Marquez, 40, was arrested Sunday, Sept. 6, following an incident along the Blue Route in Montgomery County. He remained incarcerated pending his return to Delaware County on the Upper Chichester charges, according to township police.
State police allege the Sept. 6 incident began at approximately 5:30 p.m. near mile marker 15, near the southbound ramp from Interstate 76 to I-476, when a traffic dispute involving a U-Haul truck driven by Marquez and several other vehicles escalated.
According to police, the U-Haul allegedly struck a Mercedes-Benz from behind, forcing it to stop. Several people then allegedly exited the vehicles and repeatedly punched the victim.
Police allege the victim ran toward the highway median before returning to obtain license plate information. At that point, Marquez allegedly stabbed the victim in the abdomen with a knife, according to investigators.
The group then fled southbound before emergency responders arrived, police said. Narberth EMS transported the victim to Lankenau Medical Center.
A short time later, Lower Merion Township police located the U-Haul at a Sunoco station near County Line Road and Lancaster Avenue. Investigators said Marquez allegedly fled on foot while police took a passenger from the vehicle into custody.
State and local officers subsequently located Marquez sitting on a bench in Austin Memorial Park and took him into custody. Radnor Township police also recovered a discarded knife along County Line Road that investigators believe was used in the stabbing.
Marquez was charged in Montgomery County with felony aggravated assault, evading arrest and several traffic offenses, including reckless driving and operating a vehicle with a suspended or revoked license, according to police. He was denied bail and committed to Montgomery County Prison.
Upper Chichester police said Marquez was also the subject of an outstanding felony arrest warrant connected to an alleged Nov. 19, 2022, armed robbery at the Royal Farms at 3314 Market St.
Township police responded to the business at approximately 4:43 a.m. that day for a reported robbery involving a firearm. Investigators subsequently identified Marquez as a suspect and obtained a criminal arrest warrant on March 31, 2023, according to police.
The Upper Chichester case charges Marquez with robbery, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, carrying a firearm without a license, receiving stolen property, theft by unlawful taking, possession of instruments of crime, possession of a weapon and criminal conspiracy, according to police.
The warrant was issued through Magisterial District Court 32-1-36 under docket number MJ-32136-CR-0000101-2023.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
