KENNETT SQUARE, PA — The Kennett Area YMCA is hiring part-time assistant teachers at seven Chester County elementary schools for the 2026-27 school year as it seeks to meet growing demand for before- and after-school child care.
The positions pay $16 to $20 an hour and offer weekday shifts from 7 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 6 p.m., providing flexible employment around the school day.
The YMCA’s Before and After School Enrichment, or BASE, programs operate at Bancroft, Greenwood and New Garden elementary schools in the Kennett Consolidated School District.
Positions are also available at Chadds Ford, Hillendale, Pocopson and Unionville elementary schools in the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District.
“Work schedules and school schedules don’t always align, creating a growing need for high-quality before- and after-school care and educational enrichment,” YMCA of Greater Brandywine President and CEO Bertram L. Lawson II stated.
Assistant teachers lead enrichment activities, support students and help supervise elementary-age children outside regular school hours. The YMCA identified college students, aspiring educators and retirees among the potential candidates for the positions.
