KENNETT SQUARE, PA — From marching bands and veterans to stilt-walking Uncle Sam, one of Chester County’s most meaningful traditions is gearing up to bring the community together once again.
Kennett Collaborative is inviting residents, organizations, and performers to take part in the county’s largest Memorial Day Parade—a long-standing celebration that honors those who have served while showcasing the spirit of the Kennett Square community.
Registration is now open for participants, with a deadline of Friday, May 8, as organizers prepare for a parade filled with music, history, and hometown pride.
“We invite the entire community to take part in this annual tradition,” said Kennett Collaborative board member Gretchen Rickards. “Memorial Day is a time to remember and honor those who gave their lives in service to our country.”
A Parade Filled With Tradition and Energy
Set to step off at 10:00 AM with a performance of the National Anthem by Pollock Music’s vocal students, the parade will feature a wide range of participants—from veterans and military groups to local schools, businesses, scouting organizations, and performers.
Spectators can look forward to appearances by crowd favorites like the Bushwackers Drum & Bugle Corps, the Dixie Demons alumni band, and the Lenape Brass Ensemble, along with historical car clubs and living history reenactment groups.
Adding a festive touch, this year’s event also marks the kickoff of Kennett Square’s America250 celebrations, with expanded patriotic décor planned throughout town.
Honoring Those Who Served
Leading the parade as Grand Marshals are three local veterans—Michael O’Neal, William Corkadel, and Robert Eastwood—each recognized for their decades of military service and continued contributions to the community.
Their presence reflects the deeper purpose behind the celebration: honoring sacrifice while bringing neighbors together in a shared moment of remembrance.
A Community-Wide Invitation
Organizers are encouraging participation from across the community, including:
- Veterans and military organizations
- Local schools and marching units
- Community groups and nonprofits
- Businesses and performers
- Scouting organizations and entertainers
With bilingual announcements planned along the parade route and free parking available downtown, the event is designed to be accessible and welcoming for all.
