Officer Opens Fire During Wilmington Drug Sting; Suspect Hospitalized

WILMINGTON, DE — Authorities are investigating a police-involved shooting that occurred on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, in Wilmington during a drug enforcement operation.

The incident took place around 1 p.m. near the intersection of 10th and Kirkwood Streets, where members of the Wilmington Police Department’s Drug, Organized Crime, and Vice Division were conducting an investigation. Officers attempted to stop a 32-year-old male suspect, who allegedly fled in a vehicle. During the pursuit, the suspect reportedly drove on a sidewalk, prompting an officer to discharge their firearm, striking the suspect once.

Police rendered aid at the scene until paramedics arrived. The suspect was transported to a hospital, where he is currently listed in stable condition. Criminal charges against the suspect are said to be pending further investigation.

No injuries to the officer were reported.

The Wilmington Police Criminal Investigations Division, the Office of Professional Standards, and the Delaware Department of Justice are all involved in the ongoing investigation of the incident. Officials have indicated that additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
