WEST WHITELAND TWP, PA — Overnight closures on the U.S. 30 (Exton Bypass) are set to disrupt travel in Chester County beginning Wednesday, August 12, as crews continue milling and paving tied to a $6.8 million sinkhole remediation project in West Whiteland and East Caln townships.

From Wednesday, August 12, through Monday, August 17, westbound U.S. 30 will be closed and detoured on weeknights between Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) and Business U.S. 30 (Lancaster Avenue). The closure will run from 9:30 PM until 6:00 AM the following morning.
Westbound drivers will be directed to use Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) and Business U.S. 30 (Lancaster Avenue) to travel around the closure.
A second round of closures will affect eastbound traffic from Tuesday, August 18, through Friday, August 21. Eastbound U.S. 30 will be closed between Quarry Road and Whitford Road from 8:30 PM until 5:00 AM the following morning.
Eastbound drivers will be directed to use Quarry Road, Business U.S. 30 (Lancaster Avenue) and Route 100 (Pottstown Pike).
Motorists should plan extra time when traveling through the area or along the detour routes because backups and delays are expected. The construction schedule is weather dependent.
The work is part of PennDOT’s effort to permanently repair sinkholes at two locations along U.S. 30 between Business U.S. 30 and Clover Mill Road.
Crews are using a limited-mobility grouting process that involves drilling holes through the pavement in a grid pattern and injecting pressurized grout into underground voids. The work is intended to stabilize the ground beneath the highway and reduce the risk of future sinkholes.
The project also includes pavement reconstruction, drainage pipe replacement and stabilization of roadside swales.
Road-Con of West Chester is the general contractor for the $6.8 million project, which is financed entirely with federal funds.
