WILMINGTON, DE — Delaware State Police have charged a Wilmington man in connection with two armed convenience store robberies in New Castle County earlier this month.
According to investigators, troopers first responded at approximately 8:15 p.m. Sunday, May 3, to the Shore Stop in the 700 block of South Old Baltimore Pike in Newark for a reported robbery.
Police said a masked suspect allegedly entered the store armed with a knife, approached a clerk, and demanded money from the register. The clerk complied, and the suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. No injuries were reported.
The following evening, at approximately 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 4, troopers responded to the Shell gas station in the 3000 block of New Castle Avenue in New Castle for another reported robbery.
According to Delaware State Police, an unidentified male suspect allegedly approached two clerks while armed with a knife and demanded money from the register. After the clerks complied, the suspect allegedly fled in a white Ford Taurus with an undisclosed amount of cash. No injuries were reported.
Police reported troopers later located the vehicle in Wilmington and attempted a traffic stop. Investigators said the driver allegedly failed to stop, prompting a brief pursuit before troopers lost sight of the car. The vehicle was later found abandoned near Wilson Street and East 13th Street, according to authorities.
Through the investigation, detectives identified 56-year-old Michael Reynolds of Wilmington as the suspect, police stated. Investigators also alleged Reynolds may have been connected to additional incidents under investigation by New Castle County Police and Wilmington Police during the same timeframe.
State police said Reynolds was already in Wilmington Police custody when he was charged Friday, May 15. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Delaware Department of Correction on $420,000 cash bond.
According to police, Reynolds faces the following charges:
- Robbery First Degree — three counts
- Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony — three counts
- Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony
- Disregarding a Police Officer’s Signal
- Multiple traffic violations
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
