WILMINGTON, DE — A 28-year-old man faces multiple gun and drug charges after Wilmington police allegedly recovered a loaded handgun, crack cocaine and heroin during an investigation Aug. 20.
According to police, members of the Drug, Organized Crime and Vice Division observed suspected drug activity involving a man inside a vehicle in the 800 block of Kirkwood Street around 10:37 a.m.
Officers contacted Isaiah Smiley and took him into custody without incident. Police reported recovering 5.6 grams of crack cocaine at that time.
Investigators subsequently executed a search warrant in the 100 block of West 27th Street. According to police, officers recovered a loaded 9mm handgun with an obliterated serial number, 33.8 grams of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.
Police also searched Smiley’s vehicle under a warrant and allegedly recovered 3.12 grams of heroin.
Smiley was charged with two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, possession of a weapon with an obliterated serial number, Tier 3 possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, Tier 3 possession of a controlled substance, Tier 2 possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, Tier 2 possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was arraigned in New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $205,200 cash-only bail, according to police.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
