PHILADELPHIA, PA — Motorists traveling through portions of Bucks, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties will encounter road closures, detours, and lane restrictions beginning next week as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation moves forward with resurfacing projects across the region.

The work is part of ongoing contracts to repair, resurface, and improve more than 240 miles of state highways across the five-county Philadelphia area. PennDOT said the projects are intended to extend pavement life and improve driving conditions through milling, paving, striping, and related roadway upgrades.

The most significant traffic impact is expected in Bucks County, where Elephant Road in Bedminster Township will be closed weekdays from June 8 through June 26 between Route 113 (Bedminster Road) and Old Bethlehem Road. Crews will install rock swales and complete milling and paving operations.

Drivers traveling through the area will be directed to use Route 113 (Bedminster Road), Route 313 (Dublin Pike), Ridge Road, and Old Bethlehem Road during the closure.

In Montgomery County, several roads will be subject to overnight and daytime lane restrictions. Alan Wood Road in Plymouth Township will be reduced to a single lane with flagging operations from June 8 through June 11 between Tees Boulevard and Ridge Road for paving work.

Route 73 (Big Road) in Upper Frederick and Lower Frederick townships will also be restricted to a single lane with flagging from June 8 through June 12 between Colonial Road and Route 29 (Gravel Pike Circle) during overnight paving operations.

Additional daytime restrictions are scheduled on westbound Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) in Upper Merion Township on June 10 for milling and paving work, and on Game Farm Road in Limerick Township, Lower Frederick Township, and Schwenksville Borough on June 11 and June 12 for milling operations.

In Philadelphia, multiple roads will experience recurring daytime and overnight lane closures from June 8 through June 12 for line striping activities.

The affected roadways include Cecil B. Moore Avenue between 10th Street and Ridge Avenue, Robbins Street between Frankford Avenue and State Road, Rhawn Street between Oxford Avenue and State Road, and Holme Avenue between U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) and Academy Road.

PennDOT said local access will be maintained throughout the projects, though motorists should expect delays and allow additional travel time through work zones and along detour routes.

All scheduled operations are weather dependent.

According to PennDOT, the resurfacing projects involve repairing, milling, and repaving roadways with new asphalt pavement designed to improve ride quality and enhance roadway safety.
