WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Department of Veterans Affairs approved $1.2 billion in medical-facility maintenance and modernization projects during the third quarter of fiscal 2026, advancing a record $4.8 billion infrastructure program aimed at preserving healthcare operations and preparing facilities for technology upgrades.
The department has obligated $2.3 billion of its fiscal 2026 non-recurring maintenance budget through the third quarter. The $4.8 billion allocation is the largest annual total for such projects in VA history.
Most of the latest funding, about $915 million, will be used to repair and replace aging infrastructure systems at VA medical facilities.
Another $229 million will support maintenance and modernization needed for future electronic health record system updates.
The department allocated $11 million for major building work, including elevators, electrical systems and boiler plants.
VA uses non-recurring maintenance funding for significant repairs, replacements and upgrades intended to sustain facility operations and healthcare delivery.
“Under President Trump, VA is making historic improvements in healthcare accessibility, customer service and convenience,” VA Secretary Doug Collins stated. “These record-breaking investments will enable us to continue building on that progress.”
