WEST CHESTER, PA — A West Chester East High School student has been selected for the 2026-27 Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Scholarship, placing him among 210 students nationwide chosen for the federally funded academic exchange program between the United States and Germany.
AFS-USA announced that Asher Stoll of West Chester will spend the upcoming academic year studying at a German high school while living with a host family through the merit-based scholarship program. The exchange is jointly funded and administered by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the German Bundestag.
From August 2026 through June 2027, Stoll will participate in language and cultural immersion while serving as a “citizen diplomat,” introducing German communities to American culture and learning about Germany’s history, government and daily life. The program also includes a visit to the German Bundestag, meetings with government officials and intercultural seminars.
The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange program was established in 1983 as a partnership between the United States and Germany to strengthen ties through educational exchanges. In addition to sending American students abroad, the program brings German students to the United States to live with host families and attend school.
According to AFS-USA, more than 30,000 participants have taken part in the program since its inception, with the exchange designed to develop leadership, communication and cross-cultural skills while building long-term international relationships.
