PHOENIXVILLE, PA — The Phoenixville Area School District is directing families affected by a temporary interruption in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to school meal programs, local food pantries and emergency housing assistance, while working with nonprofit Ann’s Heart to provide additional financial support for students facing food insecurity or homelessness.

The district issued a food-security notice identifying resources for households affected by the SNAP disruption or government shutdown, including free school breakfasts, free and reduced-price lunch applications and assistance from district social workers.

Families can also access food assistance through Phoenixville Area Community Services (PACS), which operates a community food pantry, and prepared meals available through Ann’s Heart.

The district’s response includes the existing Phoenixville Phamily Fund, a partnership with Ann’s Heart intended to help students and families facing emergencies when other community resources are unavailable or insufficient.

The fund supports access to food, emergency shelter and housing assistance for district families experiencing homelessness or other urgent needs.

According to the organizations, PASD and Ann’s Heart already coordinate with families to identify available community services and connect households with emergency shelter when necessary.

The fund is designed to supplement those existing resources during periods when demand exceeds available assistance.

Support includes prepared meals and pantry access through PACS, along with housing case management and emergency resources provided by Ann’s Heart.

The district’s notice directs families experiencing food insecurity to its community resource page, which provides information about school nutrition programs, local assistance organizations and contacts for additional support.

The initiative provides an immediate alternative for families whose food budgets have been disrupted by interruptions in federal assistance, while maintaining access to emergency services for students facing housing instability.
