BALTIMORE, MD — The Social Security Administration has expanded its online services for disability applicants, adding claim tracking, electronic document submission, and digital access to hearing notices as the agency shifts more of the disability claims process to self-service tools.
The enhancements, available through the agency’s my Social Security portal, are intended to give claimants faster access to case information while reducing administrative workloads associated with disability hearings.
Individuals can now submit three disability adjudication forms online: Form HA-4631 for recent medical treatment, Form HA-4632 for medication information and Form HA-4633 for work background. The agency stated that electronic submission will allow adjudicators to receive information more quickly during the claims process.
SSA also launched an online Claim Status Tracker for pending disability claims and appeals at the hearings and Appeals Council levels. The tool provides updates when a hearing request is received, tracks case preparation, reports when a hearing decision has been issued and displays the status of appeals requesting further review.
Claimants can now securely access proffer letters through the my Social Security Message Center. Those notices are issued when new evidence is added to a case after a hearing, giving claimants an opportunity to review and respond before a decision is finalized.
The agency has also expanded its Message Center to include 26 additional hearing-related notices, including notices of hearing, postponements, requests for expedited processing, evidence submission deadlines, representation matters, fee agreement decisions, hearing reminders and case status letters.
Claimants may choose to receive email or text alerts when new documents become available online. Paper notices will continue to be mailed to claimants and their appointed representatives.
“Our digital-first approach to service is now extending to disability through the Claim Status Tracker, expansion of digital notices, and online document submission,” Social Security Commissioner Frank J. Bisignano stated. “By making more tools available online, we are empowering claimants to stay informed and manage their Social Security benefits with greater ease and confidence.”
Chief of Disability Adjudication Jay Ortis stated that the new tools are intended to reduce the need for hearing offices to make outbound calls, allowing staff to devote more time to reviewing disability cases.
