NCCN Launches Weekly Cancer Guideline Alerts for Clinicians

National Comprehensive Cancer Network

PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA — The National Comprehensive Cancer Network has launched a free weekly email service that alerts users to changes in its widely used cancer treatment guidelines, expanding access to clinical updates as oncology research and treatment standards continue to evolve rapidly.

The nonprofit organization said the new service provides weekly summaries of revisions made to its NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology, which are used by healthcare providers, insurers, health systems and patients worldwide.

The initiative is designed to help clinicians identify changes that could affect patient care without requiring them to continuously monitor dozens of guideline documents.

NCCN develops and maintains 91 clinical guidelines covering cancer prevention, screening, treatment, supportive care and specialized patient populations. According to the organization, updates occur weekly and often multiple times per week as new evidence emerges and expert panels revise recommendations.

“We want those treating patients with cancer and impacted by cancer at the point of care to be aware of content changes in our guidelines that impact treatment recommendations and outcomes,” NCCN Chief Executive Officer Dr. Crystal Denlinger said.

The weekly emails will include a list of guideline updates from the previous week along with links directing users to specific sections of revised content. Free registration remains required to access the full guidelines.

The move reflects growing demand for faster dissemination of clinical information as cancer treatments become increasingly specialized and research findings reach practice settings more quickly.

NCCN said its guidelines were downloaded more than 18 million times over the past year.

“The NCCN Guidelines are used worldwide in the oncology field,” NCCN Chief Medical Officer Dr. Renuka Iyer said. She added that the goal is to provide healthcare professionals with timely access to evolving evidence while supporting patient outcomes.

The weekly service complements NCCN Flash Updates, a separate subscription product that provides daily notifications covering changes across the organization’s broader portfolio of clinical resources, including drug compendia, biomarker databases, chemotherapy order templates and patient education materials.

NCCN said the new weekly updates will be distributed every Monday and are available free of charge through registration at NCCN.org/updates.

The organization is an alliance of leading cancer centers that develops evidence-based treatment recommendations used throughout the United States and internationally.
