GLENMOORE, PA — The unmistakable signs of spring are on full display at Springton Manor Farm, where fluffy winter coats give way to fresh starts—and the community is invited to watch it all happen up close.
On Saturday, May 2, Chester County Parks + Preservation will host its annual Sheep + Wool Day, a free, family-friendly event that brings together agriculture, education, and hands-on fun in a picturesque farm setting.
At the center of the day is the crowd-favorite sheep shearing, happening throughout the event as the farm’s herd is trimmed for the warmer months ahead. Visitors can watch the process in real time, offering a rare glimpse into a tradition that has long been part of Chester County’s farming heritage.
Beyond the shearing, the farm will be buzzing with activity. Demonstrations of fleece spinning and weaving will showcase how raw wool is transformed into usable materials, while kids can enjoy inflatables, face painting, and wagon rides across the property.
Educational experiences are also a key part of the day, with Penn State Extension’s 4-H clubs and the Indian Run Environmental Center leading interactive programs about animals and agriculture. Inside the Great Barn, visitors can step back in time and explore exhibits highlighting the county’s agricultural history.
The Friends of Springton Manor Farm will add to the festive atmosphere with kid-friendly crafts and raffle baskets, while food trucks will be on-site offering a variety of options for lunch or snacks.
The event will take place rain or shine, giving families plenty of opportunity to experience a day on the farm regardless of the weather. For the safety of the animals, pets are not permitted.
