BRYN MAWR, PA — Aqua Pennsylvania will use nearly $13.5 million in state financing to install PFAS treatment systems at two community well sites in Chester County, part of a broader effort to comply with federal drinking water standards while limiting costs for customers.
The funding, approved by the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST), supports treatment projects at the Embreeville Well, serving West Bradford, Caln and East Brandywine townships, and the Hollow Run Well, serving West Whiteland and West Goshen townships.
The Chester County projects are part of a $74.3 million package of principal-forgiveness and low-interest loans awarded to Aqua Pennsylvania for PFAS treatment infrastructure across the state.
Construction at both Chester County well sites is expected to be completed by fall 2027.
The funding will also support a PFAS treatment installation at Oak Hill Well 3 in Lehman Township, Luzerne County. Together, the three well projects are expected to benefit nearly 5,700 customers.
Aqua stated that its water systems already comply with Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection PFAS standards. The new treatment systems are being installed to satisfy the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s drinking water requirements.
“Our team has been aggressive in its commitment to pursue alternative funding to lessen the financial burden on our customers,” Aqua Pennsylvania President Marc Lucca stated.
The PENNVEST award also includes nearly $61 million for a separate PFAS treatment project at the Neshaminy Water Treatment Plant in Bucks County, which serves approximately 62,000 customers in Bucks and Montgomery counties.
Since 2021, Aqua Pennsylvania has secured more than $270 million in PENNVEST financing to support water and wastewater infrastructure projects, including more than $260 million since 2024.
