WILMINGTON, DE — A 23-year-old woman has been charged with first-degree assault after police investigated a cutting that left a victim with a large laceration.
According to the Wilmington Police Department, officers responded to a hospital at approximately 6:06 p.m. on July 24 after receiving a report of a cutting victim.
Police said the victim told officers the incident had occurred in the 500 block of Greenhill Avenue. Investigators then responded to that location and contacted Amyah Rothwell, 23, who was taken into custody without incident, according to police.
Officers subsequently executed a search warrant on a vehicle and recovered a loaded 9mm handgun, police reported. The department did not state what connection, if any, the firearm allegedly had to the cutting.
Rothwell was charged with first-degree assault. According to police, she was arraigned in New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and released after posting $20,000 cash bail.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
