PENN VALLEY, PA — The Department of Energy (DOE) has begun dispersing grants to ARCH2. On Wednesday, July 31, 2023, ARCH2 received the first tranche of $30 million out of a total $925 million for Phase 1.
The DOE uses a stage-gate process with four phases, each involving a review and Go/No-Go decision. A “Go” decision triggers the release of funding. Private industry will also contribute more funds than the DOE. Phase One, taking up to 36 months, includes planning and analysis to ensure the H2Hub concept is viable, with input from local stakeholders. Funding increases as phases progress.
The Appalachian Basin has announced several projects focusing on hydrogen generation, carbon capture, and AI data centers. The Appalachian Hydrogen and Carbon Capture Conference VI will take place on November 7 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Southpointe/Pittsburgh. Sponsored by Shale Directories and the CCS Network, the conference will provide the latest information on these topics.
With the world’s cheapest natural gas and abundant water, the Appalachian Basin is ideal for these projects. Significant interest has emerged since it became a Hydrogen Hub, with four hydrogen projects announced in the last three years.
