HARRISBURG, PA — A Luzerne County man was sentenced to 14 to 30 years in prison Thursday for shooting his then-girlfriend in 2018, Attorney General Dave Sunday said.

Roberto Alvarez-Marquez, 38, of Hazleton, previously pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and illegal possession of a firearm.

According to investigators, Alvarez-Marquez became upset after his girlfriend went out with friends and shot her at close range in the chest when she returned home.

The victim survived but suffered significant internal injuries and continues to recover.
