PHILADELPHIA, PA — About 20 children from West Philadelphia will receive golf instruction and mentorship from Penn Charter student-athletes Saturday, Nov. 7, as nonprofit Sow Good Now launches a partnership designed to expand access to the sport and provide leadership opportunities for high school athletes.

The inaugural Penn Charter Golf GiveBack will take place from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Cobbs Creek Golf Course, 7403 Lansdowne Ave., according to the organizers.

Approximately 12 members of the Penn Charter men’s golf team will work with children ages 8 to 14 from the West Philadelphia Boys & Girls Club. The participants are being brought together through a partnership with Caring People Alliance, a Philadelphia nonprofit that provides youth development, education and family support programs.

Penn Charter senior Jonah Flaisher will lead the student-athlete effort alongside his teammates. Flaisher’s father coaches the school’s golf team.

The program will introduce participants to basic golf skills while emphasizing teamwork, patience, sportsmanship and leadership. Organizers intend to provide children who may have limited experience with golf an opportunity to learn the sport through direct instruction from high school athletes.

The event also places the Penn Charter golfers in mentoring roles, giving them responsibility for teaching younger participants and demonstrating skills beyond athletic competition.

Sow Good Now, a nonprofit organization recognized under Section 501(c)(3), works with high school and college athletes to provide sports-based opportunities for young people from underserved communities.

Its programs encourage student-athletes to contribute their time, skills, resources and relationships to community initiatives.

The Penn Charter event extends that approach to golf through a new partnership involving the school, Sow Good Now and Caring People Alliance.

The West Philadelphia Boys & Girls Club, operated through Caring People Alliance, provides activities and youth development opportunities for children in the surrounding community.

The clinic will be held at Cobbs Creek Golf Course, a historic Philadelphia golf destination undergoing revitalization. Organizers selected the location to provide young participants with access to golf instruction within their community.

The event marks the first Golf GiveBack involving the Penn Charter men’s golf team and Sow Good Now.
