No detour has been announced. Motorists should reduce speed through the work zone, expect intermittent delays and seek alternate routes when practical.

The striping marks one of the final phases of a $10.4 million project to widen and improve a 1.3-mile section of U.S. 1. The work has included resurfacing the highway, adding a third travel lane where feasible, constructing sidewalks, installing two Dynamic Message Signs, upgrading five signalized intersections and modifying traffic movements at Orchard Avenue.

Allan Myers LP, of Worcester, is the general contractor. The project is financed entirely with federal funds.
