HARRISBURG, PA — Tina Phillips, 49, was convicted for vehicular homicide after a 2021 incident where her speeding vehicle killed mailman Chad Varner. Found guilty of multiple charges, including aggravated assault by vehicle and involuntary manslaughter, Phillips now faces serious sentencing implications.

During the trial, evidence showed Phillips was driving over 70 mph in a 40 mph zone when she lost control, veering off the road and fatally hitting Varner, who was delivering mail on foot. Attorney General Michelle Henry remarked on the tragedy’s preventability, stating, “This completely preventable tragedy serves as a reminder that reckless and careless driving can have deadly consequences. No one expects to face this kind of danger when they go to work.”

Phillips claimed memory loss regarding the crash, but the prosecution, led by Senior Deputy Attorneys General Kara Rice and Evan Lowry, presented compelling evidence of her reckless actions. The verdict spotlights the importance of road safety and the consequences of negligence.
