West Chester University is headed to the NCAA Division II National Championship Series for the first time since 2017.

The Golden Rams punched their ticket to the championship round with a dramatic 6-5 victory over UT Tyler on Wednesday afternoon in Cary, North Carolina. The win sends West Chester to its third national championship appearance in program history, where it will seek its third national title.

As they have done throughout much of the season, the Golden Rams showcased their resilience when it mattered most. After falling behind early and later facing a 5-2 deficit entering the eighth inning, West Chester mounted a stunning comeback. The Rams erupted for four runs in the top of the eighth to seize a 6-5 advantage and then held on over the final two innings to secure the victory.

Despite being out-hit 13-5, West Chester made the most of its opportunities with timely offense and clutch pitching. The win was the team’s 23rd come-from-behind victory of the season and established a new program record with its 47th win of the year.

Offensively, Patrick Gozdan delivered one of the biggest performances of the afternoon, finishing 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Austin Stalker went 1-for-5 and crossed the plate once, while Caleb Strawhecker finished 1-for-4 with a run scored. Carter Rust added an RBI single in four at-bats.

On the mound, Landen Rozich recorded the final three outs in the ninth inning to earn his fifth save of the season and preserve the victory.

Following the game, head coach Mike LaRosa praised his team’s resilience and competitive spirit.

“It’s certainly been a magical season,” LaRosa told West Chester University Athletics. “This group, from top to bottom, keeps finding ways to win games and truly never gives in, no matter what just happened, whether it is good or bad. This team competes on every pitch, all game long, and it is a ton of fun for us (as coaches) to watch. That type of competitiveness is something we always preach, but we don’t always get the buy-in that we’ve gotten out of this group.”

The best-of-three national championship series is scheduled to begin Thursday or Friday, depending on the outcome of the remaining bracket games. Regardless of the opponent, West Chester enters the championship round with momentum and confidence after another impressive victory. Throughout the season, the Golden Rams have repeatedly found ways to overcome adversity, a trait they will look to lean on once again as they pursue a national championship.
