NEWARK, DE — A joint Delaware-Pennsylvania drug investigation led to the arrest of a 40-year-old Newark man after detectives reported seizing fentanyl, crack cocaine, a handgun and more than $7,000 in suspected drug proceeds from his residence.
The investigation began in July when Pennsylvania State Police detectives contacted the New Castle County Division of Police Drug and Human Trafficking Investigation Team about an ongoing drug case, according to county police.
Investigators subsequently identified Amin Alim, 40, of Newark, as a suspect allegedly involved in distributing suspected heroin and fentanyl in Delaware and surrounding areas of Pennsylvania, police reported.
On Sept. 3, detectives executed a search warrant at Alim’s residence in the Liberty Square Apartments on Winchester Road. Police reported that Alim was found inside and taken into custody without incident.
During the search, detectives reported seizing more than 85 grams of crack cocaine, more than 29 grams of raw fentanyl and 35 bags of packaged fentanyl. Police also reported recovering a 9 mm handgun with an obliterated serial number, magazines, ammunition, and other items investigators allege were indicative of drug distribution.
Detectives also seized more than $7,000 that police allege represented drug proceeds.
Alim was charged with two felony counts of possession with intent to deliver a Tier 3 quantity, one felony count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, one felony count of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited and one felony count of possession of a weapon with an obliterated serial number. He also faces a misdemeanor drug paraphernalia charge, according to police.
Alim was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $170,001 cash bail, police reported.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
