Suspected Drug Activity Leads to Wilmington Arrest

WILMINGTON, DE — A Wilmington man is facing felony drug charges after police reported observing what they described as drug-related activity on the city’s west side.

According to Wilmington Police, members of the Drug, Organized Crime, and Vice Division were in the 1700 block of West 3rd Street at approximately 2:54 p.m. on May 27 when they observed a man allegedly engaged in drug-related activity.

Police said officers made contact with 30-year-old Jewann Hopson-El and took him into custody without incident.

According to investigators, officers recovered approximately 0.81 grams of heroin and 7.8 grams of crack cocaine during the encounter.

Hopson-El was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and one count of possession of a controlled substance, Tier 1, police said.

Court records show Hopson-El was arraigned in New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after bail was set at $9,000 cash only.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
