PHILADELPHIA, PA — On Monday, Quadir Findley and Eric Dickerson, both aged 24 and residents of Philadelphia, were found guilty in a federal court on charges related to a carjacking incident that took place in the early hours of August 5, 2023. The jury convicted Findley on multiple counts, including carjacking, using or carrying a firearm during a violent crime, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. This marks a notable moment in his criminal history, as Findley has prior convictions for voluntary manslaughter, aggravated jury tampering, and drug distribution. Dickerson was convicted of a single count of carjacking.
The legal consequences for the defendants are severe. Findley faces a mandatory minimum prison term of seven years, with the potential for a life sentence. Dickerson, on the other hand, could receive a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. The sentencing will be determined at a later date, but the convictions underscore the federal government’s commitment to addressing violent crime in Philadelphia.
U.S. Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero underscored the grave nature of the crime, recounting the distressing words used by Findley during the carjacking: “Don’t say anything or I’ll blow your ‘f—ing’ head off.” She emphasized the terror inflicted upon the victim, stating, “No one should be terrorized like that and made to fear for their life. Findley and Eric Dickerson are violent criminals, exactly the type of offenders that the Philadelphia Carjacking Task Force is focused on, and we’ll continue to lock these carjackers up to make the city safer.”
Echoing the sentiment, ATF Special Agent in Charge Eric DeGree remarked on the federal nature of carjacking offenses, declaring, “Carjacking is a serious federal crime that will not go unpunished.” He assured the public that the ATF Philadelphia Field Division, in collaboration with the Philadelphia Carjacking Task Force, will persist in their efforts to deliver justice and enhance community safety through federal prosecution.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, alongside the Philadelphia Police Department. The prosecution was led by Assistant United States Attorneys Catherine Dos Santos and Priya De Souza, who played crucial roles in securing the convictions.
