WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police arrested a 15-year-old male last Thursday evening after officers investigating suspicious activity allegedly recovered a loaded handgun following a foot pursuit.
According to investigators, members of the Safe Streets Task Force were patrolling the 900 block of Vandever Avenue at approximately 6:20 p.m. May 21 when they observed the juvenile acting suspiciously.
Police reported officers attempted to make contact with the teen, who allegedly fled the area on foot.
A short time later, the juvenile was taken into custody without further incident, according to investigators.
Police said officers allegedly recovered a loaded 9mm handgun during the arrest.
According to investigators, the juvenile was charged with:
- Two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited
- Carrying a concealed deadly weapon
- Resisting arrest
Police reported the juvenile was arraigned in New Castle County Family Court and held pending further proceedings.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
