WYOMISSING, PA — Police responded to a wide range of incidents across Wyomissing over April 18 and April 19, including a hit-and-run crash, reports of an intoxicated individual, domestic-related calls, and numerous traffic stops and service calls, according to records released by the Wyomissing Police Department.
According to police, activity began shortly after midnight Friday, April 18, with a traffic stop at Penn Avenue and Bern Road at 12:31 a.m., where a driver was warned for a turn signal violation. Minutes later, at 1:09 a.m., officers responded to a noise complaint on Old Mill Road, where individuals hosting a party were advised to lower the volume.
At 1:23 a.m., police reported an occupied disabled vehicle along Route 222 near Penn Avenue, where flares were deployed while the driver awaited a tow. At 1:28 a.m., officers assisted Spring Township police along Route 422 and Penn Avenue in locating a man involved in a reported domestic incident who was walking along the highway. Police said the individual was located and no further action was taken.
At 1:49 a.m., officers responded to an ATM alarm on Museum Road, which police determined showed no signs of tampering. Around 4:02 a.m., police said they were dispatched to Spring Street for an intoxicated man found lying in a parking lot, who was escorted back to his hotel room without incident.
Later that morning, at 9:44 a.m., officers responded to a 911 hang-up call on Timberline Drive, where no emergency was found. At 11:34 a.m., police made contact with an individual reportedly panhandling on Berkshire Boulevard and advised him that soliciting is prohibited in the borough.
At 11:36 a.m., officers investigated an attempted theft from a vehicle on Cleveland Avenue that reportedly occurred earlier that morning, with no property reported taken. At 12:08 p.m., police responded to a domestic-related call on Spring Street, though the involved party had left prior to arrival. A second related call at 12:43 p.m. was resolved without further issue, police said.
At 12:12 p.m., police responded to an automatic crash notification near the Warren Street Bypass and Ramp DB, which was determined to be a false alert after a motorcyclist reportedly dropped a phone. At 12:25 p.m., officers checked on a man reported vomiting near a mall along State Hill Road, who declined assistance and stated he was fine.
Police also reported a 911 hang-up involving a moving vehicle near Route 422 and Route 222 at 12:56 p.m., but said the call was outside the borough by the time officers were dispatched. At 1:19 p.m., officers checked on a dog inside a vehicle on Woodland Road and determined the animal was not in distress.
At 2:12 p.m., police responded to a hit-and-run crash on State Hill Road involving an unoccupied vehicle. Officers said information was obtained and the investigation remains ongoing. Later, at 3:28 p.m., officers assisted Spring Township police with a family dispute in West Lawn.
In the evening hours, police assisted Brecknock Township police at 6:51 p.m. with a barricaded individual following a domestic incident in Mohnton. At 8:09 p.m., officers responded to a burglar alarm on Leisure Court and found no issues at the residence.
Police also responded at 8:13 p.m. to a report of a pothole forming near Brandywine Court and Lincoln Avenue and notified public works for follow-up. At 8:38 p.m., officers handled a 911 hang-up on Downing Drive, determining there was no emergency.
At 8:48 p.m., officers responded to a reckless driving complaint on Berkshire Boulevard, where police said a driver was warned after allegedly passing on a double yellow line. A second reckless driving complaint in the same area at 10:37 p.m. was unfounded after the vehicle left before officers arrived.
At 10:21 p.m., officers responded to a report of a possible vehicle fire on a ramp near Woodland Road, which was determined to be an overheating vehicle that was moved off the roadway.
Shortly after midnight Saturday, April 19, at 12:10 a.m., police conducted a welfare check on Berkshire Boulevard after receiving a report that a female driver may have been abducted. Officers located the woman nearby and determined she was not in danger, having been unable to call for assistance due to a dead phone.
At 1:13 a.m., officers assisted West Reading police with a reported fight on Third Avenue, though the disturbance had been resolved prior to arrival. A second assist at 6:10 a.m. on Cherry Street also involved a fight, which was handled by West Reading police.
Later that morning, at 11:41 a.m., police responded to Phoebe Drive for a large tree branch blocking the roadway and notified borough crews. At 1:15 p.m., officers recovered a purse found in the roadway on Park Road North and secured it as found property.
Police conducted multiple traffic stops throughout April 19, issuing warnings and citations for violations including stop sign infractions, expired registration, improper lane changes, and traffic signal violations at locations including Penn Avenue, State Hill Road, and ramps near Woodland Road.
At 5:26 p.m., officers assisted Spring Township police with a report of a woman walking along Route 222 near Penn Avenue. Later, at 11:33 p.m., police responded to Berkshire Court for a report of a disorderly individual who refused to leave a location. Officers said the individual gathered belongings and left without further incident.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
