Convicted Felon Sentenced in Berks County Gun Possession Case

Court News

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Jeffrey Hill, 27, of Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania, was sentenced Wednesday to 32 months in federal prison for illegally possessing firearms and ammunition after authorities recovered homemade weapons, ammunition, and firearm manufacturing components during a probation search of his residence, federal prosecutors said.

Hill was also ordered to serve three years of supervised release by U.S. District Judge John M. Gallagher, according to an announcement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

Federal prosecutors said Hill pleaded guilty in January to possession of a firearm by a felon after waiving indictment and agreeing to proceed by information.

According to court filings, Berks County probation officers visited Hill’s home in January 2025 for a routine compliance check. Authorities said Hill appeared nervous when he opened the door for officers.

During the visit, one probation officer observed metal pins commonly used in handgun assembly inside a bag on a dresser, prosecutors said. After obtaining supervisory approval, officers searched the residence and recovered two 12-gauge shotguns, a privately manufactured AR-15-style rifle, and a privately manufactured 9mm handgun loaded with 15 rounds of hollow-point ammunition.

Investigators also recovered ammunition, a ballistic vest, loaded magazines, firearm parts, and tools authorities said are commonly used to manufacture homemade firearms.

Hill was prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition because of a prior conviction punishable by more than one year in prison, prosecutors said.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Sinking Spring Police Department, and Berks County Probation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Rebecca Kulik prosecuted the case.
