Armed Gas Station Robbery Ends in Chilling Wilmington Escape

NEW CASTLE, DE — Delaware State Police are investigating an armed robbery at a New Castle gas station Monday evening that ended with a vehicle pursuit and the suspect fleeing on foot in Wilmington.

Troopers responded around 7:30 p.m. Monday to the Shell for a reported robbery, according to investigators.

Police said a man armed with a knife approached a store clerk and demanded money from the cash register. According to the preliminary investigation, the clerk complied and the suspect allegedly stole an undisclosed amount of cash before leaving the scene in a white Ford Taurus.

Authorities said no injuries were reported during the robbery.

A short time later, troopers located the vehicle in Wilmington and attempted a traffic stop, according to state police. Investigators said the driver failed to stop, leading troopers on a brief pursuit.

Police reported they temporarily lost sight of the vehicle before later finding the Ford abandoned near the intersection of Wilson Street and East 13th Street.

According to investigators, the suspect remains unidentified. Police described him as approximately 6-foot-2, wearing a brown sweatshirt and dark-colored pants.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
