NEW CASTLE, DE — Two men face multiple felony charges after New Castle County Police allege a dispute escalated into threats involving a firearm and a stabbing that wounded an adult and a juvenile Sunday afternoon.
Police identified the defendants as Oral King, 45, and Jeffrey Reid, 19, both of New Castle.
At approximately 3:03 p.m. Aug. 9, officers were dispatched to Hillview Avenue in the Hillview Manor community for a reported stabbing, according to police.
Officers found an adult victim and a juvenile victim suffering from puncture wounds to their upper bodies and provided medical assistance until emergency medical services arrived, police reported. Both victims were taken to a local hospital, where they were later listed in stable condition and expected to be released.
Detectives with the New Castle County Police Criminal Investigation Unit subsequently determined that the incident allegedly began as an isolated dispute involving several people, including the victims, at another location on Lambson Lane.
During that dispute, police allege Reid pointed a firearm at several people, causing them to flee.
As the victims were fleeing, investigators allege King became involved in an altercation with them and stabbed both victims. Police reported that the wounded victims continued fleeing until they encountered officers and emergency medical personnel on Hillview Avenue.
Later that evening, officers located King and Reid and took both men into custody without incident, according to police.
King was charged with two felony counts of first-degree assault, two felony counts of possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony and one felony count of noncompliance with conditions of a recognizance bond.
King was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $122,000 cash bail, police reported.
Reid was charged with four felony counts of aggravated menacing and one felony count each of possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, carrying a concealed deadly weapon and possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited.
Reid was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $67,000 cash bail, according to police.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
