WILMINGTON, DE — A 15-year-old boy faces attempted murder and weapons charges in connection with a July shooting that left a 17-year-old boy critically injured, according to Wilmington Police.
Police reported that officers responded at approximately 8:04 p.m. July 12 to the 1600 block of West 4th Street for a reported shooting.
Officers located a 17-year-old boy who had suffered a gunshot wound, according to police. The victim arrived at a hospital in critical condition.
The case was assigned to Detective Johnnie Everett of the Wilmington Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division. During the investigation, police allege Everett identified a 15-year-old boy as a suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest.
On Aug. 8, officers located the 15-year-old in the 1100 block of West 2nd Street and took him into custody without incident, police reported.
The juvenile was charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon and first-degree reckless endangering.
He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on $126,000 cash-only bail, according to police.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
