WEST BRANDYWINE, PA — Residents and staff at Freedom Village at Brandywine more than doubled their goal during this year’s Pump It for Parkinson’s event, logging over 1.3 million steps in a single day to support awareness and healthy living.
The community set an ambitious target of 500,000 steps but far exceeded expectations as participants came together for a day of movement and purpose. The event, part of a nationwide initiative organized by the National Institute for Fitness and Sports, encouraged communities across the country to stay active while raising awareness about Parkinson’s disease.
Throughout the day, residents and team members took part in a variety of activities, including treadmill and NuStep workouts, group walks, balance stations, and line dancing. The atmosphere was energetic and uplifting, with participants embracing both the physical challenge and the shared mission of supporting those living with Parkinson’s.
“Pump It for Parkinson’s is a powerful reminder of the role physical activity plays in supporting those living with Parkinson’s disease,” said Executive Director Danielle Geyer. “We are incredibly proud of our residents and team members for coming together, exceeding our goal, and contributing to a meaningful national effort.”
The event also highlighted the broader impact of physical activity in managing Parkinson’s disease, which affects nearly one million people in the United States. Organizers emphasized that regular movement can play a key role in improving quality of life, making events like this both meaningful and impactful.
Freedom Village leaders credited the success of the event to the dedication of residents, staff, and organizers who participated throughout the day. The National Institute for Fitness and Sports was also recognized for coordinating the nationwide effort and encouraging communities to take part.
With more than 1.3 million steps recorded and strong participation from across the community, organizers say Freedom Village at Brandywine will continue to support initiatives that promote wellness, awareness, and active living in the years ahead.
