PHILADELPHIA, PA — Susan G. Komen plans to raise a combined $725,000 through breast cancer fundraising walks in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh this month as cancer advocacy groups face growing demand for patient support services, research funding, and treatment access initiatives.
The organization said the Philadelphia MORE THAN PINK Walk, scheduled for May 30 at the Navy Yard’s Marine Park Grounds, has a fundraising target of $350,000. The Pittsburgh event, scheduled for May 17 at Schenley Park, aims to raise $375,000.
Komen said proceeds will fund breast cancer research, patient financial assistance, educational resources, and public policy initiatives focused on treatment access.
The organization also said funding supports its Patient Care Center, which provides breast health information, navigation services, and financial support for patients undergoing treatment or living with metastatic breast cancer.
According to Komen, approximately 13,720 people in Pennsylvania are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, while roughly 1,770 deaths are projected statewide.
Nationally, more than 320,000 women and approximately 2,670 men in the United States are expected to be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in 2026, according to figures released by the organization.
Komen said it provided assistance to 1,301 patients in Pennsylvania during fiscal year 2025, including $219,600 in financial support for eligible patients in active treatment or living with metastatic disease.
“By uniting survivors, people in treatment today, those living with metastatic disease, friends and family members, we can all make a difference in our efforts to detect breast cancers early and improve treatments for all types of breast cancer,” Megan DiPanni, executive director for Pennsylvania and Delaware, said in a statement.
The Philadelphia event will include support areas for survivors and families and is backed by regional sponsors including PECO, Wawa, ShopRite, Fox Chase Cancer Center, Prime Prometics, Alliance Cancer Centers, and Rivers Casino.
Bank of America serves as national presenting sponsor for the MORE THAN PINK Walk and Race for the Cure series, with additional national sponsorship support from Natera, Daiichi Sankyo, Guardant Health, Novartis, and Lilly.
