NEWARK, DE — A former childcare teacher is facing a felony child abuse charge following an investigation into allegations involving a 3-year-old child at a Newark daycare facility.

According to Delaware State Police, the Criminal Investigations Unit began investigating in late April after the child’s mother sought medical treatment for her son upon noticing bruising on his wrist.

The investigation centered on an incident at the Delaware Technical Community College Stanton Childhood Development Center, located at 400 Stanton-Christiana Road.

Investigators said evidence reviewed during the investigation indicated that Neha Gour, 46, of Hockessin, who was employed as a teacher at the facility at the time, allegedly picked up the 3-year-old child by the neck and placed him in a chair, causing the child to cry and grab his neck.

Police further alleged that Gour then forcefully grabbed the child’s wrist and led him to another area of the classroom.

Following the investigation, detectives obtained a warrant for Gour’s arrest.

Gour turned herself in at Troop 6 on June 30 and was charged with third-degree child abuse, a felony.

Court records show she was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court and released on her own recognizance.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
