WILMINGTON, DE — A Delaware man is facing attempted murder charges after state police said a woman was shot in the face during an incident in Wilmington over the holiday weekend.
According to Delaware State Police, troopers responded at about 6:45 p.m. Saturday to the 2100 block of Marsh Road for a report of a shooting.
When troopers and emergency medical personnel arrived, they found a 35-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the face, police said. The victim was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators identified the suspect as Paul Waller, 39, of Wilmington. According to state police, the investigation determined that Waller allegedly shot the woman during a verbal interaction, and detectives subsequently obtained a warrant for his arrest.
Police said Waller was taken into custody in Pennsylvania on Sunday. Authorities said he will be charged in Delaware upon his extradition.
Waller is expected to face charges of attempted first-degree murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
The Delaware State Police Criminal Investigations Unit continues to investigate the shooting.
