Incyte Deepens AI Drug Discovery Bet in $120 Million Deal

Incyte

WILMINGTON, DE — Incyte (Nasdaq: INCY) is expanding its partnership with biotechnology software firm Genesis Molecular AI in a deal worth $120 million upfront, giving the company broader access to artificial intelligence tools and committing proprietary research data to train next-generation drug-discovery models.

The agreement reflects a growing shift among pharmaceutical companies toward integrating proprietary experimental data with large-scale AI systems in an effort to shorten development timelines and improve the identification of drug candidates.

Under the terms of the deal, Genesis will receive $80 million in cash and a $40 million equity investment from Incyte. The company will also receive ongoing research funding to support model training and computing infrastructure.

The expanded collaboration builds on a partnership launched in February 2025 and broadens the use of Genesis’ GEMS platform across additional targets in Incyte’s research pipeline.

A key element of the agreement is Incyte’s decision to provide Genesis with proprietary experimental data to train and improve its AI models. The arrangement is among the earliest large-scale pharmaceutical collaborations structured around using a partner’s internal research data to enhance foundation models for drug discovery.

The companies plan to add at least five new discovery programs selected by Incyte. The pharmaceutical company will retain exclusive rights to develop and commercialize any resulting products.

For Genesis, the financial upside extends beyond the upfront payment.

The company is eligible for up to $232 million in development, regulatory, and commercial milestones for each program, along with royalties on any approved products. If all milestones are achieved across the initial five targets, Genesis could receive more than $1 billion in additional payments, according to the companies.

The agreement also leaves room for Incyte to nominate additional targets in the future, potentially increasing the total value of the collaboration by several billion dollars if development and sales objectives are met.

Pablo Cagnoni, Incyte’s president and global head of research and development, indicated the company views AI as an increasingly important component of its drug-discovery strategy.

“By combining our deep expertise in drug discovery and development and our significant experimental data with Genesis’ AI capabilities, we aim to more efficiently advance priority programs against high-value targets,” Cagnoni said.

Genesis Chief Executive Officer Evan Feinberg described proprietary scientific data as a critical ingredient for improving molecular AI systems.

“High-quality proprietary data is among the most valuable inputs for advancing molecular AI,” Feinberg said.

The expanded partnership highlights intensifying competition among pharmaceutical companies to deploy artificial intelligence beyond administrative functions and into core research operations, where even modest improvements in drug discovery success rates can translate into significant commercial value.
