Four Teens Charged After Burglary Scare in Bear

BEAR, DE — Four teenagers are facing felony charges after New Castle County police allege they damaged a door and entered a building Wednesday evening.

According to the New Castle County Division of Police, officers responded at approximately 7:44 p.m. July 15 to the 2100 block of Old Kirkwood Road for a reported burglary in progress. Police had received reports of several individuals running from the building.

Officers located four male juveniles outside the property and detained them while investigating, police reported.

According to investigators, the teenagers allegedly arrived on bicycles and scooters before intentionally damaging a door to gain access to the building. Police allege the juveniles fled after seeing another person arrive at the property before officers reached the scene.

Authorities identified the juveniles only by age and hometown: a 14-year-old, a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old from Bear, and a 14-year-old from New Castle.

Police reported that all four were transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters and each charged with one felony count of third-degree burglary, one felony count of second-degree conspiracy and one misdemeanor count of criminal mischief involving less than $1,000 in damage.

According to police, the juveniles were arraigned through Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on their own recognizance.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
