Amalgam Rx Wins AI Award for Healthcare Language Model

Amalgam Rx

WILMINGTON, DE — Amalgam Rx has been named the 2026 “Overall Large Language Model of the Year” by AI Breakthrough, recognition that highlights growing investment in artificial intelligence systems designed for clinical decision support and predictive healthcare.

The Wilmington-based healthcare technology company received the award for Chiron, its proprietary foundation model that analyzes longitudinal patient records to predict future medical events across multiple conditions.

AI Breakthrough, which recognizes artificial intelligence products and companies, reported receiving more than 5,000 nominations from organizations in over 20 countries for its 2026 awards program.

Unlike disease-specific AI models trained for individual conditions, Chiron is designed to analyze a patient’s broader clinical history—including diagnoses, medications, referrals, comorbidities and demographic information—to identify risks across multiple therapeutic areas.

According to Amalgam, the model reduced unnecessary diagnostic follow-up testing by nearly half while identifying the same number of high-risk sleep apnea patients as traditional approaches, nearly doubling diagnostic efficiency.

Steve Johansson, managing director of AI Breakthrough, described the platform as addressing limitations common among narrowly focused healthcare AI applications.

“Chiron from Amalgam combines innovative foundation-model architecture, large-scale longitudinal data, and deep clinical integration, transforming healthcare AI into a unified system for predictive patient intelligence,” Johansson stated.

The company designed the model for integration into electronic health record systems, allowing healthcare providers to receive predictive insights during patient care. Amalgam also markets the platform for identifying patients eligible for therapies and clinical trials and for predicting medication adherence risks before treatment failures occur.

Chief Executive Officer Ryan Sysko characterized the technology as an alternative to developing separate AI models for individual diseases.

“By learning across the entire patient journey, it gives providers a comprehensive view of risk they’ve never had before and opens a wider window for intervention,” Sysko stated.

The recognition follows Amalgam Rx’s 2024 AI Breakthrough award for Best Large Language Model Application, extending the company’s record of industry recognition for healthcare-focused artificial intelligence.
