DataCapable Names COO as Utility Sector Demand Increases

Business news

CLAYMONT, DE — Utility software provider DataCapable has appointed industry veteran Bob Flaherty as chief operating officer, a leadership move aimed at supporting expansion as electric utilities increase investments in operational intelligence and grid management technology.

The appointment comes as utilities face growing pressure from severe weather events, grid modernization requirements, regulatory oversight and increasing demands for real-time communication during service disruptions.

DataCapable said Flaherty will oversee customer growth, client success and strategic initiatives as the company expands its software platform across North American utility operators.

The company said it currently serves five of the 10 largest electric utilities in the United States, supporting utility operations that collectively reach more than 75 million customers.

Flaherty joins DataCapable from Locusview, where he led strategy and sales efforts before the company’s acquisition by Itron earlier this year. He previously held leadership positions at Trimble and Oracle Utilities and has more than three decades of experience in the utility technology sector.

Chief Executive Officer Bill Potter said the appointment is intended to support the company’s next phase of growth and operational expansion.

“Utilities do not need another dashboard,” Potter said. “They need connected intelligence that helps people make better decisions, coordinate faster, and serve customers more effectively.”

The company said Flaherty’s responsibilities will include scaling operations, increasing product adoption and strengthening relationships with utility customers and industry partners.

DataCapable identified two immediate priorities for the new COO: improving operational efficiency across the organization and expanding strategic partnerships with utilities, systems integrators, consultants and technology providers.

According to the company, the operational initiative is intended to improve data quality, streamline workflows and provide employees with more timely information, while the partnership effort is designed to broaden adoption of technologies supporting utility resilience and grid modernization.

Flaherty said DataCapable’s customer relationships and position within the utility sector were key factors in his decision to join the company.

“The company has earned the trust of some of North America’s leading investor-owned, municipal, and cooperative utilities,” Flaherty said. “Combined with a unique, enterprise-grade platform that helps utilities better serve both customers and operations teams, the opportunity ahead is tremendous.”

The appointment follows continued growth in demand for software platforms that help utilities manage outages, coordinate field operations and improve situational awareness during high-impact weather events and other disruptions.
