Chase Drops Foreign Transaction Fees on Freedom Flex Card

Chase

WILMINGTON, DE — Chase is eliminating foreign transaction fees on its Freedom Flex credit card and adding enhanced hotel-redemption offers, expanding the no-annual-fee card’s travel benefits while retaining its rotating cash-back structure.

Freedom Flex cardholders can now make purchases abroad or through international online merchants without incurring foreign transaction fees.

Chase is also extending Points Boost offers to Freedom cardholders for select hotel reservations through Chase Travel. Under rotating offers, Ultimate Rewards points can be worth up to 10% more when redeemed for eligible hotel bookings.

Freedom Flex already provides 5% cash back on purchases made through Chase Travel.

“Our cardmembers want rewards that fit their lives, from everyday purchases to their next trip,” said Wittney Rachlin, general manager of Chase Freedom.

Chase is also changing how cardholders can track the Freedom Flex card’s rotating 5% cash-back categories. Categories will now be viewable one quarter in advance through the Chase Mobile app.

For the first quarter of 2027, the 5% categories will include eligible streaming services and grocery stores, excluding Walmart and Target. Grocery stores are also a fourth-quarter 2026 category, marking the first time Chase has offered the category in consecutive quarters.

The rotating categories require activation and provide 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases each quarter.

Outside those categories, Freedom Flex offers 3% cash back on dining and drugstore purchases and 1% on other purchases. The card has no annual fee.

Chase is also offering new Freedom Flex cardholders $250 after they spend $500 on purchases during their first three months for a limited time.

Other card benefits include purchase and extended-warranty protections, fraud monitoring, auto rental coverage, trip cancellation and interruption insurance, travel and emergency assistance, and access to Chase Credit Journey for credit-score and identity monitoring.
