Arrest Made in Connection with Yesterday’s Wilmington Shooting

WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police today announced an arrest in connection with a shooting incident that took place yesterday.

The criminal complaint alleges that on Tuesday at approximately 10:57 a.m., two members of the Community Engagement Unit were conducting a foot patrol in the area and reported hearing shots fired in the 800 block of West 7th Street. Officers located a 16-year-old male gunshot victim. While one police officer rendered aid to the victim – who was transported to the hospital in stable condition – the other officer pursued a suspect on foot. Police were able to take the suspect, 19-year-old Meziah Thompson, into custody without incident.

The case was assigned to Detective Brendan Wham of the Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of his investigation, Detective Wham was able to identify Thompson as a suspect in connection with the shooting incident.

Thompson has been charged with the following offenses:

  • Attempted Murder (First Degree)
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • Conspiracy (First Degree)
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance – Two Counts

Thompson was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $137,000 cash-only bail.
