EAST WHITELAND TWP, PA — Beginning Monday, May 6, residents and commuters in East Whiteland Township, Chester County, will face significant traffic disruptions due to water main construction by Aqua Pennsylvania. The project, which is set to run through Friday, May 24, will lead to the closure of Swedesford Road between Phoenixville Pike and Church Road from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM on weekdays.

During the closure periods, drivers will be rerouted via Planebrook Road, U.S. 30 (Lancaster Avenue), and Church Road. While local access will be preserved up to the point of the work zone, those traveling through or near this area are encouraged to plan for additional time in their journeys, as traffic backups and delays are anticipated.

The undertaking of this essential infrastructure work under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit underscores its importance. However, it also heralds a period during which commuters must brace for the logistical challenges posed by detours and reduced road capacity. Given the reliance on favorable weather, the project’s timeline may be subject to adjustments, adding another layer of consideration for local traffic planners and drivers alike.

Motorists affected by the Swedesford Road closure are thus advised to stay informed about the project’s progress and adjust their travel plans accordingly. Preemptive planning and patience will be critical for navigating this temporary inconvenience as Aqua Pennsylvania works to enhance water service reliability and safety for the community.
