HARRISBURG, PA — Attorney General Michelle Henry has introduced an online portal aimed at expediting the reporting of data breaches impacting over 500 Pennsylvania residents. This initiative aligns with recent amendments to the Breach of Personal Information Notification Act (BPINA), which mandates prompt notification to the Attorney General’s Office when such breaches occur.
“This new requirement in the law will offer Pennsylvanians more protections and prompt notifications when sensitive information, such as account numbers and personal data, is compromised,” stated Attorney General Henry. The portal is designed to simplify the reporting process for businesses, ensuring timely compliance with legal obligations.
Under the revised BPINA, companies must not only report data breaches but also provide affected individuals with 12 months of credit monitoring and access to a credit report if the breach involves critical personal information like Social Security numbers or bank details. The portal, accessible via the Office of the Attorney General’s website, guides entities through each step necessary to submit comprehensive breach details.
Attorney General Henry emphasized the importance of familiarizing all businesses operating in the state with these legal updates, underscoring the portal’s role in enhancing data security measures and safeguarding residents’ personal information.
