Pennsylvania DHS Releases New Positive Approaches Journal Focusing on Suicide Prevention

PENNSYLVANIA — The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) recently released the latest issue of the Positive Approaches Journal. The journal, aimed at providing recent research and resources for individuals with mental health and behavioral challenges, intellectual disabilities, autism, and other developmental disabilities, focuses on suicide risk and prevention in this edition.

The journal is a collaboration between DHS’ Office of Developmental Programs and Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. It gathers resources, observations, and advancements in mental and behavioral health to better serve people within their communities.

This edition includes several insightful articles and research pieces:

  • “Data Discoveries” explores the implementation of the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline and its potential benefits for individuals with dual diagnoses of autism or intellectual disabilities and mental health issues.

  • “More Health Care System Interventions Needed to Curb Veteran Suicide Rate” discusses evidence-based preventive measures to address higher-than-average suicide rates among veterans.
