Health Inspectors Flag Food Safety Violations, Infestation in Chester County Restaurants

WEST CHESTER, PA — The Chester County Health Department reported multiple food safety violations at several establishments following inspections conducted April 13, citing issues ranging from improper food temperatures to pest infestations.

At BIERHAUL TOWNHOUSE LLC in West Chester, inspectors documented violations including improperly cooked chicken, sanitizer levels outside required ranges, and refrigerated foods held above safe temperatures. Inspectors also cited plumbing issues, unclean food-contact surfaces, and improper labeling of menu items that may be served raw or undercooked. Some temperature-controlled foods were discarded during the inspection.

At COUSIN BURGERS in Phoenixville, inspectors cited more extensive violations, including a lack of basic food safety knowledge by staff, failure to wash hands between tasks, and improper storage of raw chicken at unsafe temperatures. Additional issues included malfunctioning refrigeration units, lack of thermometers, grease buildup in the facility, and evidence of mouse droppings. Inspectors also observed improper cooking temperatures for ground beef and widespread sanitation concerns across food preparation equipment and surfaces.

DIAMOND EATS LLC, operating at the Downingtown Farmers Market, was cited for failing to provide adequate warm water at the handwashing station and for not having a proper handwashing setup in place while operating. The issue was corrected during the inspection.

At NALAN INDIAN CUISINE in Downingtown, inspectors responding to a complaint reported a German cockroach infestation throughout the facility, including in food preparation and storage areas. The report also noted improper placement of insect control devices above food contact surfaces and the use of restricted pesticides by a non-certified individual.

  • Angus Meat Sales at Herr’s in Nottingham;
  • Bamboo Restaurant in Frazer;
  • Bar-B-Q-Boutique in Malvern;
  • Blummies Breakfast Cafe in Oxford;
  • Cheyney Grille in Cheyney;
  • Einstein Brothers Bagels in Paoli;
  • Hillside Elementary School in Berwyn;
  • Loch Aerie Mansion catering operations in Malvern;
  • Sabores de Mi Tierra in Coatesville; and
  • The Nutrition Group at Renaissance Academy in Phoenixville.

Health officials noted that inspections represent conditions observed at the time of the visit and may not reflect long-term compliance.
