WEST CHESTER, PA — The Chester County Health Department reported food safety violations at multiple establishments during April 17 follow-up inspections, including temperature control issues and equipment deficiencies, while identifying several locations in compliance.
At ACME Markets #192 in Paoli, inspectors cited improper food temperatures in a produce display, with cut melon measured between 44 and 47 degrees and feta at 51 degrees, above the required 41 degrees or below.
The feta was discarded, and staff were instructed to verify temperatures before placing items in open-air units, according to the report.
Inspectors also noted a lack of hot water at restroom sinks, detaching caulk in a deli vent hood, and an empty sanitizer dispenser in a warewashing sink that was later refilled to proper concentration.
Additional issues included cardboard used beneath deli slicers, which was removed during the inspection, and a leak from a condenser unit in a seafood cooler.
At Philly Pretzel Factory in Kennett Square, inspectors cited improper use of handwashing sinks for storing soda nozzles and utensils, as well as issues with sink drainage and sanitizer testing supplies.
Staff were instructed to clean equipment in the proper sink and to discontinue using wiping cloths to block sink drains.
The report also noted that incorrect test strips had been ordered for sanitizer monitoring.
The health department said inspection findings represent conditions observed at the time and may not reflect long-term compliance.
The department also reported multiple establishments were found to be in compliance, including
- Burger King #6441 in Phoenixville;
- Concert Penn Oaks in West Chester;
- La Tartine in West Chester;
- Little Chef Restaurant in Coatesville;
- Love to Sprinkle Bakery Commissary in Spring City;
- Phoenixville Babe Ruth Snack Bar
- Phoenixville Senior Adult Center;
- Primrose School of Devon;
- Stable 12 Brewing Company in Phoenixville;
- Tabernacle Baptist Church in Coatesville;
